Imagine being paid for “stanning” your favourite influencer? Weentar is the decentralised social media idea looking to turn that screen time into paid time for all.

A few days ago Nerf, the toy gun company put up an advert looking to hire a chief TikTok officer. One of the qualifications that stood out was the number of hours the person should have spent on the TikTok app. Remember the good ole days when the apple notification letting you in on the number of hours you have spent “wasting’ your life in front of a screen was a bad thing? Well, it turns out that might be changing. But we have seen this coming. This only worked to prove the point on something that should have been obvious to all.

Work has changed. Work used to only be going to do physically demanding activities or serious mental ones that left one exhausted every evening, it would still be that for a lot of people, but as machines take over a lot of the old jobs new opportunities to earn are coming about. If you can think back to a decade ago the idea of being a “YouTuber” would have seemed like a complete joke, but there are a lot of YouTube millionaires today who did nothing but react to videos or do what a lot of people would consider “fun” to get paid.

So, what does that have to do with Weentar, the decentralised social media app we are building on the blockchain. How can that top the fact that YouTube pays its biggest stars a fraction of the ad buys, or that instagram and Facebook pays nothing at all. How can we think that a small company like ours can ever compete with the Goliath that are these platforms?

Honestly, we won’t have to compete. We are simply creating a better system, a fairer system, a decentralised system. Think about the success of Bitcoin for a second. It is the most efficient store of value because of the blockchain. If you owned one bitcoin 5 years ago, the adoption 5 years later would have caused the value of your ownership to increase. It would not have required any more work from you. As a participant of the currency you gained monetary value for simply participating. Now think about that, but instead of a proven yet faceless digital currency, think about it, celebrities, creators, important people whom you respect all having their own currency on the blockchain. Your participation is ownership. The sooner you get in the better, the larger the community the more value for your ownership. By simply owning and stanning your favourite person you gain monetary value for your ownership of their currency. You can also buy their content and have the right to the images they post as NFTs written into the blockchain.

All that time spent scrolling, liking, commenting and having an opinion, finally paying off.

To not be subjected to unwanted ads, to have a vote in the lives of your favourite person like you would in your country because you are a part of the community. The word “internet troll” would start to mean less and less when you become an owner in the success of a person you like and can be an active participant in their lives.

Work has changed its inherent meaning, and Weentar is creating a platform that is making the next logical step in the evolution of attention monetisation that makes more winners out of everyone.
